Jacksonville chosen as President Trump's host for National Convention

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel said in a news release, Thursday evening, that Jacksonville was chosen as the destination spot for the Republican Renomination Convention to re-elect President Donald Trump.

The celebration is now set to take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Area in 75 short days.

Klausner closed
– Employee lawsuit filed over wages

The sawmill at the catalyst site in western Suwannee County, Klausner Lumber One, closed its doors on March 16, 2020, and filed bankruptcy on April 30. The company allegedly did not tell its employees ahead of time, which would be a violation of the federal Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) Act that states they must provide 60 days advance notice of a large-scale lay-off or firing. As a result, a class action lawsuit was filed against Klausner on March 21, 2020, in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida in Jacksonville, on behalf of the Live Oak employees and its sister mill employees in Halifax County, North Carolina.

During a press release today in Jacksonville, beginning Monday, May 18, 2020, Governor DeSantis announced restaurants can operate at 50 percent indoor capacity. Gyms and fitness centers can also open up as well as museums and libraries along with other retail businesses at a 50 percent capacity.

Governor DeSantis issues Executive Order 20-112 this evening

Phase 1 in reopening Florida: Safe, Smart, Step-by-Step plan for Florida's recovery

Effective Monday, at 12:01 a.m. on May 4, 2020.

The order stated that data collected by the Florida Department of Health indicates the State has achieved several critical benchmarks in flattening the curve, including a downward trajectory of hospital visits for influenza-like illness and COVID-19-like syndromic cases, a decrease in percent positive test results, and a significant increase in hospital capacity since March 1, 2020.
