
–DeSantis proposes stiffer laws

Last week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced proposed legislative action to curb the growing nationwide uptick of retail theft and porch piracy. In 2022, retailers across the country lost $112 billion to retail theft, with sharp increases in major cities like New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

The Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) announced last week in a social media post that it was going to bill customers a recovery charge for damages from Hurricane Idalia, beginning February 1. The co-op is also posting Q & A’s on their Facebook page for concerned customers.

The Suwannee County Republicans hosted the showing of ‘THE REAL STORY OF JAN 6’ at the Live Oak Church of God on Friday, January 26, 2024. Over 60 people attended including the parents of a man who was arrested and currently awaiting trial this fall. Another attendee spoke about his very positive experience that day.

Sunday, January 21, Governor Ron DeSantis announced he was suspending his presidential campaign and endorsing former President Donald Trump. He is joining a growing list of 2024 candidates that have endorsed Trump after they suspended their campaigns. Candidates like Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
