Debris Cleanup Procedures from the May 10 and 11 storms - Suwannee County

Our county continues to recover from the effects of the May 10 and 11 storms. Suwannee County Commissioners and the Suwannee County Division of Emergency Management have established the process and teams for the cleanup of debris caused by the recent event.

Crews will begin collecting vegetative waste on public right-of-way on county-maintained roads

from Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, June 7. Crews will work within the county/city/towns to collect and remove trash. This 11-day deadline will not be extended. All debris placed on the right of way should not be piled up too close to the road or street, which could cause a traffic hazard.

This cleanup period is only for residential vegetative debris caused by storms. Do not place construction debris or any other type of non-vegetative storm debris on the right of way. The collection service is not for commercial use or land clearing. Also, collection teams will not enter private properties or streets to collect waste.

The Emergency Management Division is exploring the use of volunteer groups to assist those needing assistance on their private property. If these arrangements can be finalized, more information on the processes will be posted. Until further information is received, you can contact the Southern Baptist Emergency Response Team at (904) 253-0502 for assistance with trees, debris, and tarps.

Please move vegetative waste to the county right of way as soon as possible and before Tuesday, May 28th. Waste not in the county right of way by May 28 is at risk of not being picked up during collection week from 5/28/2024 to 6/7/2024.

If you have any questions, please call the Emergency Management Division at 386-364-3405.
