Is your teen ready to embark on an exciting journey towards automotive independence? We have an incredible opportunity that will equip them with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make smart decisions when it comes to buying their first car. Suwannee County Extension,

in collaboration with Hamilton County Extension, presents an exclusive car buying workshop designed specifically for teenagers 14-18 years of age. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity!

Workshop: Wheeling & Dealing: Buying Your New Ride - includes car buying info., guest speakers & a site visit.

The workshop contains several key concepts, including the following:

•Smart Financial Decisions: Buying a car is a major financial investment and having a budget is key.

Consider not just the purchase price, but also the upfront, monthly and maintenance expenses such as downpayment, insurance and fuel costs. Make sure to choose a vehicle that fits comfortably within the budget to avoid financial strain.

•Vehicle Research: Take the time to research different makes and models that align with needs, preferences, and budget. Consider factors such as reliability, fuel efficiency, safety features, and maintenance costs.

•Pre-purchase Inspections: It’s highly recommended that an inspection is performed on the vehicle before finalizing the purchase. This can identify any hidden issues or potential problems that may not be apparent during a test drive.

•Safety Awareness:

Safety is a major priority. It is important to understand the safety features of different vehicles, understand crash test ratings, and select a car that prioritizes the well-being and safety of passengers.
•Negotiation Strategies: Be prepared to negotiate the price of the vehicle. Research the market value, be prepared to walk away if the price doesn’t fit in the budget.

•Ownership Responsibilities: Understand the responsibilities that come with owning a vehicle, including regular maintenance, insurance payments, registration renewals, and adhering to local driving laws.

•Building Confidence: With knowledge comes confidence! By completing a car buying class, teens will feel empowered and ready to engage in discussions, negotiate prices, and make well-informed decisions. The knowledge gained will serve as a foundation for future automotive endeavors.

Remember, knowledge is power, and with the right tools in hand, teens can navigate the car-buying process by being well-informed, conducting research, making responsible decisions, and choosing a vehicle that suits their needs.

The workshop will be held at the Suwannee County Extension office, located at 1302 11th Street SW, Live Oak, FL 32064 on July 17 - 19 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The fee is $25. Please contact Sandra Wainwright at 386-362-2771.
