Discussing Richardson Center

Columbia County to hold joint meeting with city, April 18

Staff Reports

Lake City, Fla., – Last week, the Columbia County Board of County Commissioners proposed hosting a joint Board of County Commission and City of Lake City meeting to discuss operational processes regarding Richardson Center. The Board postponed accepting the deed to Richardson Center until the meeting takes place.

“The County remains dedicated to Richardson Center and the surrounding community today, just as it has the past 16 years,” says Rocky Ford, Columbia County Board of County Commission Chairman. “This commitment was highlighted this week with the installation of a $150,000 generator which adds to the millions of capital improvement dollars invested over the past decade. However, we must have a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities moving forward related to Richardson’s ownership and operations funding. ”

Based on the agreement prior to today’s meeting, staff had clear direction to discontinue operations and remove confidential property from Richardson Center. However, the Board reversed direction during this morning’s meeting and all County assets are staying in place at Richardson.

The joint meeting will take place the evening of Tuesday, April 18. Residents can refer to the County’s online calendar for a specific time in the coming days.
