Scarecrow Festival was great fun at Hearthstone Gardens

Submitted by Lucille Heinrich

Wellborn, Fla., – The Scarecrow Festival at Hearthstone Gardens, held October 16, in Wellborn was blessed with a perfect day for outdoor activities. Visitors got to vote on their favorite scarecrow in three different categories: children, individual/family, and business/organizations. A first and second prize was awarded in each category. Some of these scarecrows are now on display at Millennium Park in Live Oak.

The many children who attended the event went duck fishing and participated in a variety of crafts and activities in the children’s garden. A hayride was open to all visitors as well as a glass beehive and a cake walk where the lucky winner got to take home a delicious homemade cake. The greenhouse was filled with plants that sold at reasonable prices. Early birds got to spend time with an Audubon guide who helped them identify a variety of birds that made this bird sanctuary their home.

The food; sales; and bake and raffle tables did a brisk business, and the proceeds from these sales went toward maintaining the gardens. Entrance to the gardens is free. The gardens are open daily during daylight house seven days per week. Workshops are held at the gardens monthly. The next workshop will take place November 19, and it will feature Holiday Décor. Using natural materials Polly Worthington Boris will guide us to create one of a kind decorations. Call (386) 438-3102 or sign up or online: www.hearthstonegardens.org.
