Live Oak Garden Club Starts Off With A Bang

Live Oak, Fla., – Our Garden Club year spans from September to May each year. We like to take a break during the summer to do - you guessed it – GARDENING – and of course vacations, holidays and family gatherings.

On September 17, we started out our year with a bang. Our President, Shirley Reaves, presented to our long-time Garden Club Member, Carol Beasley, an Honorary Membership Award. Since 2007, Carol has given her spark and energy to make a success of every Garden Club project. She is a true friend to each of us and a great asset to the Club.

Also honored at the meeting was Lyn Ashton Worrell. Lyn oversees our “Spotlight on Design” project where at each meeting she shows innovative and interesting flower arrangements and designs brought by members. She is a talented designer herself and has been an inspiration to all of us to try designing. Lyn is a dynamo in the community. She devotes her love and caring at our nursing homes bringing joy to the residents. She was chosen by Florida Federation of Garden Clubs to be the recipient of their Special Achievement Award.

Our keynote speaker at the meeting was none other than our beloved Mayor, Frank Davis. Everyone loved hearing about how he came to Live Oak from Greenville, Florida, raised his family here while pastoring Melody Church and eventually becoming our Mayor. His humor is endearing!

Our next big project at Live Oak Garden Club is our Fall Festival on October 23. There will be a huge yard sale, bake sale and lots of plants and herbs to buy. It’s a great opportunity for Christmas shopping!
