A familiar face is returning to the Suwannee County Commission after Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed a former commissioner to temporarily fill a vacant seat last week.
Clyde Fleming, who previously served on the board, will represent District Two until voters choose a permanent replacement in November’s general election.
At this time, Democrat Cynthia Robinson is the only candidate who has officially entered the race.
The position became vacant following the passing of Commissioner Maurice Perkins, who died Nov. 26 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Perkins had been elected to the commission in 2022.
Active in his community, Fleming was the recipient of the Florida Association of Counties Trailblazer Award. Fleming is a member of the Suwannee County Quarterback Club and previously served as a Technician at W.S. Badcock Corporation.
